Certain Uncertainties Commission

line

Twice this year I have been asked to paint my rendition of the painting “Certain Uncertainties” by artist Christian Vincent. This painting can be seen in the love scene from the movie “The Thomas Crown Affair” with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. It is one of my favorite movies and the music is great too throughout. As the two are making love on the marble stairway, the camera pans up the wall and over a painting – Certain Uncertainties – where a woman in a bathing suit is sitting on the bow of a boat, colored in light on rough seas as a man in the darkness guides the boat at sundown. It is an interesting composition for sure, but a very nice painting nonetheless.

Soon after the movie’s release and in all the years that have followed, people have clamored in search of information about this painting – prints, cards, giclees, anything. What you will find is – nothing, and barely a good image on the internet to get a closer look. Any information regarding the owner of the original painting is impossible to find as well. Even conversation with the artist, Christian Vincent, leads nowhere, as he did tell me that there were never any prints or giclees made of the painting.

Having only the movie to “pause” and a very small image of the painting online to use as reference, I have been approached twice this year to put my spin on the popular painting. This is an image of my most recent completed commission of “Certain Uncertainties” which now resides in Washington D.C.

Below is the scene from the movie where the painting makes its debut (CAUTION:  This is a provocative scene, and not meant for children) …

I think your reproduction is wonderful! I’d love to have that painting hanging in my foyer.
